Serving the lake community since 1975, the Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue Department is an all volunteer organization. Our dedicated volunteers responds to hundreds of calls a year, including structure and boat fires, water craft collisions, medical emergencies and boaters in distress.
With a fleet of nine specially equipped boats located around the lake, the department is responsible for all fire, rescue and emergeny medical services on the 20,600 acre lake. Our crews respond to all calls within 1,000 feet of the lake's 540 miles of shoreline. We also provide critical support services to our land-based counterparts in Bedford County, Franklin County and Pittsylvania County.
We are always intersted in speaking with citizens who wish to serve their community. So, if you are interested in becoming a firefighter or an emergency medical technician and enjoy being on the water; please contact us.
The Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire/Rescue is actively seeking new members. Members can be firefighters, EMT's or simply someone that wants to help the community. If you feel that you have that calling to help others, that is the person we would like to speak with. Please drop us a note on this page or submit an application at Bedford County Department of Fire and Rescue.
