Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue was dispatched to investigate reports of HAZMAT in the water near Halesford Bridge. Once on scene found a rainbow sheene on the water in the area of Captain’s Quarters docks and extending back into the cove near Parrots Cove Marina. SMLMVFR deployed 100 absorbent pads to contain the material and notified VDEM and VDEQ. No obvious source of the spill was found. Material appeared to be transmission or lower unit fluid.&...
Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue conducted dock checks for lake residents looking for stray voltage entering the water in near private docks. Stray voltage found at boat lifts and metal pilings. Homeowners notified of results.
