| Members of Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire and Rescue honored those lost on September 11, 2001. Several members were personally affected by the events of that day and lost loved ones. The tribute began with a prayer at Blackwater Marina, followed by the national anthem.
Five of the department’s boats, accompanied by other local boaters, traveled south to the area near R12. Water was sprayed from the deck guns while “God Bless America” played, followed by Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”
