| Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue has implemented several updates to its website, with plans for ongoing enhancements to provide important information to the community.
The home page now features a ticker at the top displaying the current lake level. The ticker uses three colors to indicate lake conditions: green for levels between 0 and 3 feet below full pond, yellow for 3 to 6 feet, and red for more than 6 feet below full pond. This information is updated hourly using data from AEP.
A new menu titled "Join our Team" has been added to the website. This page is designed for those interested in volunteering with the department, outlining expectations and providing background information. Visitors can fill out an interest form that is sent to the membership committee and can also complete a volunteer application with Bedford County.
The "About Us" and "Apparatus Gallery" menus now include an interactive map showing the locations of all department fireboats across the lake. Clicking on a red pin reveals the boat number and its location. It is essential to note that none of the fireboats, nor the fire headquarters, are staffed around the clock. In an emergency, please call 911 rather than visit these sites expecting personnel to be present.
The Incidents section has been streamlined and now displays the total number of calls for the current year and each month, as well as call totals for previous years at the bottom of the page.
As new features are added, updates will be shared on the website. Community members are encouraged to suggest improvements or features by sending an email to the IT Department at the link below.
As always we want to thank the community for its support. We would not be who we are today if it wasn't for you. |
